MEDIA CENTRE IN LUBOK ANTU

KUCHING, March 18 (Bernama)-- The state Information Department will set up amini media centre at its Lubok Antu office from March 26 to April 7 for theconvenience of media members covering the Batang Ai state by-election to filetheir reports.

Its director, Resat Salleh, said today more than 80 print and electronicmedia representatives based in Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur had registered with thedepartment so far to cover the April 7 by-election.

The centre would be equipped with sufficient Internet lines and computerswhile the whole office building would be covered by the streamyx wireless system, he said in a statement here.

Resat advised members of the media to check with the centre on the dailyactivities to be held in the constituency during the campaign period.

There are now 16 media organisations based in Kuching, inclusive of RadioTelevision Malaysia (RTM) and the national news agency, Bernama, while TV3 andNTV7 only operate from Kuala Lumpur.

Ministries and government departments organising activities in Batang Ai can inform the department early by faxing their itineraries to 082-319807 or 083-584663.

The Batang Ai seat fell vacant following the death of Datuk Dublin UntingIngkot on Feb 24. The constituency has more than 8,000 voters, with 95 percentof them Iban.
